MediClub Georgia and the Georgian Hair Research Society (GHRS) offer a one-day course in Trichology. January 31, 2026.
In the 21st century, hair loss has become an increasingly pressing issue. Whether it is alopecia areata, diffuse hair loss, androgenetic alopecia, or various forms of scarring alopecia, hair loss significantly impacts people's quality of life. Some researchers attribute this trend to environmental degradation and pollution, while others point to unhealthy lifestyles and poor nutrition. Additionally, the rise in endocrine pathologies and increased exposure to stressful situations remain among the primary risk factors today.
Hair loss concerns represent a vital branch of modern dermatology. Approximately 8% of patients visiting dermatological and aesthetic medicine clinics seek help specifically for hair loss pathologies. However, specialists suggest that the actual figure is much higher, as many individuals consider hair loss to be a normal occurrence and do not seek medical assistance.
Trichology is the science dedicated to the study of hair health and disorders of the scalp. It is a relatively young but rapidly evolving field, representing a vital branch of dermatology.
Specialists believe that changes in hair structure serve as significant markers for various physiological and pathological processes. Accumulated evidence shows that the first signs of endocrine system disorders, metabolic and trophic issues, as well as certain psychological disorders, may manifest as changes in hair density, color, and structure. Furthermore, over 300 genetic pathologies are accompanied by various hair disorders, highlighting the importance of assessing these conditions during the primary diagnostic stages in pediatric dermatology and genetics.
Trichology was established as an independent medical field in London in 1902. In 1989, the European Hair Research Society (EHRS) was founded. This influential non-profit organization brings together the world's leading trichologists, dermatologists, family physicians, and hair transplant surgeons. Today, the guidelines developed by the EHRS are utilized worldwide. The society includes renowned scientists such as Jerry Shapiro (USA), Rolf Hoffmann (Germany), Rodney Sinclair (Australia), Abraham Zlotogorski (Israel), Desmond Tobin (UK), and others. The European Hair Research Society Congress remains one of the most significant annual events in the field of trichology.
The Georgian Hair Research Society (GHRS) was established in 2013. Operating in accordance with established legislation, the society aims to develop the field of hair health in Georgia and implement international standards.
